When your child develops chronic issues with their ears, nose, or throat, you want immediate attention from an expert to relieve their distress and resolve the issues. Did you know that there’s an expert ENT who has been serving families in our community for decades, right here in Ashland? There’s no need to waste gas and time driving back and forth to a larger metropolitan area for children’s ENT services that Dr. Andrew Stein provides to many families in our local community already.
Ashland ENT treats many children’s ENT issues right in your own backyard, including the following common pediatric ENT concerns:
Tonsillitis and Tonsillectomies
Tonsillitis is an infection of the tonsils that can make it difficult for children to swallow. It is caused by bacterial and viral infections, most commonly the bacteria Streptococcus (strep). Your tonsils are an important part of the immune system, but if a child’s case of tonsillitis keeps coming back, a doctor may recommend a tonsillectomy, or the removal of your tonsils.
A tonsillectomy is an outpatient procedure performed by Dr. Stein that usually lasts about an hour, with a week to ten days of recovery.
Ears and Hearing
Dr. Stein provides comprehensive newborn hearing screenings, newborn testing, hearing aids, and intervention services here in Ashland. Any concerns about a child’s hearing can be investigated by Dr. Stein. Ashland ENT provides pediatric testing, auditory rehabilitation, otoacoustic emission testing, acoustic immittance, diagnosis and management of auditory neuropathy in infants, and hearing aid fitting and management for children of all ages.
Our ears are home to our balance centers. If your child is experiencing dizziness or other balance difficulties, Dr. Stein provides comprehensive evaluations.
Allergies
Allergies can have a serious impact on your child’s overall health and wellbeing. Besides “just seasonal allergies,” allergies are linked to a variety of other ear, nose, and throat disorders and diseases. Our team has extensive training in the comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of allergies. There’s no reason to suffer through allergies and risk more severe health complications.
GERD
GERD stands for Gastroesophageal reflux disease. It occurs when the ring of muscle between your esophagus and your stomach, called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), is weak or relaxes when it shouldn’t. If this happens, the acids in your stomach flow back into the esophagus, causing heartburn.
If your child is diagnosed with GERD, or you suspect they may have GERD, Dr. Stein can help you determine the best treatment plan. Usually GERD does not require surgery and can be treated by lifestyle changes, diet modifications, and over-the-counter medications.
Your child’s ear, nose, and throat issues can all be treated locally by a professional. Dr. Stein has served the Ashland community and practiced medicine for over 25 years. Connect with Ashland ENT today to schedule your child’s appointment or explore all of our available services.
