Below you will find descriptions of the various styles of hearing aids. When you come in for your appointment, one of our audiologists will work with you to determine which style would work best for your lifestyle and hearing needs.

Behind-The-Ear (BTE)

  • Appropriate for mild to profound hearing loss
  • Durability: Very Durable
  • Repair rate: Very low
  • Battery life: *2 – 3 weeks
  • Ease of Use: Fair – insertion sometimes requires practice

In-The-Ear (ITE)

  • Appropriate for mild to severe hearing loss
  • Durability: Good
  • Repair rate: Low
  • Battery life: *1 ½  – 2 weeks
  • Ease of Use: Easy

In-The-Canal (ITC)

  • Appropriate for mild to moderate hearing loss
  • Durability: Good
  • Repair rate: Fairly low
  • Battery life: *1 ½  – 2 weeks
  • Ease of Use: Fairly easy

Completely-In-Canal (CIC)/Mini-Canal

  • Appropriate for mild to moderatly severe hearing loss
  • Durability: Fair (more fragile than others)
  • Repair rate: Higher (more susceptible to wax)
  • Battery life: *1 week  – 10 days
  • Ease of Use: Fair – smaller battery door, etc.

Receiver-In-The-Ear (RITE)

  • Appropriate for mild to moderate hearing loss
  • Durability: Very Durable
  • Repair rate: Very low
  • Battery life: *1 ½  – 2 weeks
  • Ease of Use: Fair – insertion sometimes requires practice
